food for thought-

Common Misconceptions and Truths About Makeup

Let's set the record straight.

1. No one is the exact same person as anyone else. You are unique, and only you get to decide who YOU are. Your makeup can be an extension of you. Your unique face is a one-of-a-kind canvas.

2. YOU are the only person who gets to decide if you are wearing "too much makeup."

3. "Start out perfect and don’t change a thing. Always accentuate your best features by pointing at them. And conceal your flaws by sucker punching anyone who has the audacity to mention them." -Miss Piggy

4, Makeup can be, if you want it to be, your everyday fantasy. It doesn't have to be "naked" (But it can be!) Red lipstick won't make you look like a "whore." Makeup can be whatever you want it to be, however often you apply it- twice a day, only on special occasions. It can be YOU. Just like fashion or hair.

5. Your makeup doesn't have to match anything but whatever you're feeling that day. If you want purple eyebrows, you can give yourself purple eyebrows. If you don't want to wear any, then don't. There is no "normal" or "standard." If makeup is really an art form (It is!) then there are no rules except those you create for yourself...and even those are fun to break, sometimes.

6. "Art is what you can get away with." - Andy Warhol
See what you can get away with.

7. Just because you don't wear makeup or wear "natural" makeup does NOT mean you are any better, prettier, or in any way superior to the people who wear "heavy" makeup. The word "makeup" means different things to different people and THERE IS NO ONE DEFINITION OF PRETTY.

8. Most of all, makeup is meant to be fun. However, whenever you wear it- have fun. What's the point otherwise? Don't feel like you have to wear it to look pretty. Don't let it control or define you. People (NOT just women) have been wearing makeup since forever. Everyone might not always like what you chose to do with your face, but as long as it's not hurting anyone and you like it, it doesn't matter.

Love yourself. There's only one you. Beauty is art. And beauty is whatever you want, need it to be.

xoxo
